Keeping your boiler in top condition is vital in ensuring your house not only stays warm but stays safe as well. Issues with your boiler can potentially be very dangerous so keeping it in good working order and having any problems seen to as soon as they arise is important.

If your boiler hasn’t been serviced in a long time, this is a sign it is probably due for some care and maintenance. This can be the case for a variety of reasons from moving into a new home or simply being busy and not having the time to keep up with regular services.

Regardless, if you can’t recall when your boiler was last serviced it may be time to book in with a professional and have them check everything is in full working order.

Another reason can be if you have a very old boiler. Even if you have had it regularly checked, an old boiler may encounter more issues than a newer model and therefore requires more frequent maintenance. It may be worth replacing a boiler that is more than ten years old to avoid this.

One of the more obvious signs your boiler may have a problem is if it is leaking. While this one shouldn’t need to be mentioned, often people may not notice there is a leak, especially if the boiler is in a more hidden area of the home such as the basement.

Leaks can lead to mould, dampness and water damage as well as causing your boiler to work inefficiently. Calling an emergency plumber in this instance may be the best way to deal with the issue as soon as possible.

Another more obvious sign is if your boiler is making strange sounds. Unusual noises are never a good sign in any situation and your boiler is no different.

If you start hearing hissing or rattling sounds it could be a sign something isn’t quite right and you should have it seen to as soon as possible.
