Bill-payers all over the country will be looking for ways to save money on their energy bills over the winter months, thanks to sky-rocketing fuel prices. Therefore, they will certainly be interested in the latest hack that could see them save £70 on their bills just by playing with their boiler settings.

Former personal finance journalist Sophie Smith has taken to TikTok to share money-saving tips with followers. A recent one includes turning the boiler’s flow temperature down to 50C for heating and 55C for water.

Ms Smith stated: “The setting for most boilers is too high. This simple step could save you money and your home will feel just as warm.”

The TikTok tip, which has been viewed more than half a million times, has been claimed to save people £70 on their energy bills, despite not having a big impact on how warm or cold the house feels.

Viewers found the tip so useful, it has received nearly 5,500 likes and received over 300 comments.

Some TikTok users have even said Ms Smith’s claims are conservative, with one commenting: “I have always done this and probably save a lot more than £70.”

Another savvy billpayer added: “Done this ages ago save a fortune on gas [sic].”

Sophie also told followers they can save £130 a year by washing clothes at 30C, not overfilling the kettle, switching off lights when leaving the room, and showering for only four minutes a day.
It is also important your boiler is in top condition and working as efficiently as possible. So, call us today for a boiler service in Southwark to make sure you are not paying more for your bills than you should be.
